For many people trying to adjust to life in a COVID world, a *respite stay with us may be the answer. Birchgrove clients have the opportunity to stay in one of our fully furnished self-contained apartments to find out what it’s like to live in a retirement community.
You can enjoy all the benefits of living at Birchgrove, confident in the knowledge that we are there to support you through these challenging times, and to keep you safe no matter what the future brings.
Our care and support teams are always on hand to tailor the service they offer to suit your individual needs, so that you can have as much or as little care and support as you need.
All our apartments have an InfoNet digital telecare console. An easy-to-use touchscreen device that gives you access to all Birchgrove’s support services. Included is a speech pendant, which allows emergency calls to be made anywhere across the Birchgrove site. It can be conveniently and discreetly carried around the neck, on a belt, or in a handbag.
A respite stay helped restore balance and order in Susan’s life as she supported her parents to make the move to Birchgrove.
Here’s what she told us:
“It’s been pretty non-stop for months, what with Covid and my parents health. Mum’s been in and out of hospital a lot with various issues, and dad has also deteriorated because of his heart condition, especially after lockdown. They’re both so worried about being alone should anything happen and we’re running out of ideas of how to support them. To be honest, I’m totally exhausted and the whole thing is really taking a toll on my family.
“Despite having carers coming in, mum and dad really need the reassurance of someone always being around. We looked at Birchgrove because renting meant that we could act quickly and move mum and dad into a furnished apartment, whilst we had time to decide what to do with their existing home and prepare to sell it.
“I really can’t thank the team enough for supporting us through this process. Mum and dad are now settling into their new home and are even beginning to join in with some of the socially-distanced activities and make new friends. As a family, we’re beginning to see the benefits too. I almost forgot what it was like to have a good nights sleep!”
