When we think of retirement, most of us envision a lifestyle that allows us to socialise and take up new or forgotten hobbies. Yet, the reality is that many people in later life in the UK end up living an isolated life or are overwhelmed with everyday chores such as the upkeep of a large family home, which can lead to a drastic decline of a person’s health, wellbeing and quality of life.
The very reason we exist, and the fundamental values that drive us, is the belief we can empower you to live longer, better in later years at one of our retirement communities.
Inspired by Sir Muir Gray, one of Britain’s most senior medical figures and renowned for his work in the NHS, we very much echo his philosophy on reimaging ageing.
Purpose, Exercise, Diet–is one such initiative we’ve introduced at our communities and it underpins the very heart of what we are about at Birchgrove.
You'll never find two Birchgrove communities the same, because we believe the place you call home should be as individual as the people and neighbourhood it sits within. So, we make sure that every community is not only future-designed to suit your needs as you age, but has character to complement the local area.
Our first community in Sidcup, Kent is now a thriving neighbourhood of like-minded people.
The beautiful residential area of Hook Heath, Woking is home to our second community.
Our third retirement community in Ewell Village, Surrey is now open.
Birchgrove apartments are not for sale, so our retirement Advisors won’t pressurise you to buy; they are simply here to help you think about things differently and work out what options are open to you.
Take Dorothy at Queensgate Apartments, Sidcup; she takes it upon herself to welcome people into our Birchgrove community and help them settle in. "When you come to a new place and see a sea of faces, it’s quite daunting. So I strike up a conversation – it makes a huge difference to how people feel and settle in those first few weeks.
Donald and April moved into Woodbank Apartments, Woking to live the life they wanted despite having different levels of health and mobility. April still rides her bike into Woking to do an exercise class and a quiz, have a cup of coffee and a chat, and then cycle back. Whilst Donald is growing his own vegatables with the onsite chef in the kitchen garden.
Helping our residents rediscover their sense of ‘purpose’ is central to our ethos at Birchgrove. Beth at Lower Mill Apartments, Ewell Village has teamed up with the local library to share her passion for crochet with a small group of neighbours by offering crochet sessions to those interested in taking up the hobby.
When the time comes for the big move, let Birchgrove take the stress and effort out of it for you, your family and your friends with our exclusive Moveasy service.
We have partnered with hand-selected businesses to give you a hassle-free move. Our Moveasy service is available to all Birchgrove clients and provides specialist help when moving house. For example:
Sort through your belongings to help you declutter – making what can be an overwhelming process therapeutic and even liberating.
Floor planning and preparing for your move – producing detailed plans to show how best to fit furniture into your new home, prepare inventories and staging the current home for sale or rental.
Removal on the day – help pack your belongings and move them safely to your new home. We can even help you unpack, so you settle quickly.
Independent financial advice – whether you are looking to sell, rent out or release equity from your existing home.
We’ll stock your fridge with the essentials, so that you have what you need to make yourself (and a friend) a cup of tea or two. And our onsite restaurant is the perfect place for a bite to eat, tastefully prepared by our onsite chef.
Our attractive guest suite with ensuite bathroom means that a relative or a friend helping you on the day can stay over.
